We've recently had a very unique opportunity to build a new non-MR model Mitsubishi Evo 9. Starting with the motor we increased the displacement to 2.3 liters (over the factory 2.0L) using the new Eagle 2.3 Evo Stroker kit, which comes complete with a new crankshaft assembly, bearings, rods and pistons. The new 2.3L motor makes more torque than the stock 2.0L; this significantly eliminates turbo lag and allows the factory turbocharger to make instantaneous boost. This makes for an incredibly streetable car with plenty of available torque.
The turbocharger has been outfitted with an upgraded "o2 Housing", a GT Spec exhaust manifold and a complete 3" DC Sports exhaust system.
While this Evo 9 originally came with a standard 5 speed transmission we chose to replace it with an Evo 9 MR 6-speed transmission. Although a couple of parts had to be adapted to accomidate the new 6-speed tranny the swap works perfectly well. Shifter cables, shifter housing and center panel have to be swapped in order to work with the 6-speed transmission.
To upgrade the handling and continue with the MR transformation we upgraded the standard suspension with Evo 9 MR Bilstein shocks / struts and agressively lowered the stance with Hotchkis lowering springs.
